24thstate thinks so:

Seems Maida Coleman, the former minority leader for Democrats in the  Missouri State Senate has landed a full time gig in Jefferson City.  She’s working as something called a Designated Principal Assistant/Liaison.  That sure sounds like a government title, doesn’t it?

I figured it was going to be printed somewhere by the time I got back, but nothing is live.  To make the mystery deeper, her name isn’t appearing on the MapYourTaxes.gov site.  The position also doesn’t appear in the list of Missouri government jobs for merit pay, and wasn’t posted or even appears to be noticed anywhere in state government, state media, or on personal sites.

Here is the list of Missouri jobs.  There are positions open in the Labor and Industrial Relations division, but they are manager positions under the merit system.  One has to apply for them.  The position Coleman has been “placed” into is apparently not a merit position. It’s a stimulus-funded position overseeing unemployment funds.

Coleman also ran for mayor last election.

Get sitters for the kids. If you’re serious about liberty then I think you’ll agree that a one-day sacrifice is worth it to make your sentiments known. From Jim Hoft:

HELP WELCOME OBAMA TO MISSOURI ON WEDNESDAY—–

** Health Care Rally at  St. Charles Convention Center (map, directions, parking) at 9:45 AM on Wednesday March 10, 2010.

The Wednesday Rally called by Rep. Todd Akin & GOP House Leader John Boehner is the federal-healthcare equivalent of “The Gunfight at the OK Corral” for Missouri!

We need ALL HANDS ON DECK, and ALL BOOTS on the Ground!! If you can take time off work, if you can leave your children or elderly parent with a sitter (or bring them)…if you can at all make this rally – DO IT!

This may be it! Pelosi is trying to bring this to the floor for a vote in the coming days…and is strong-arming all the moderate dems into voting for Obamacare Socialized Medicine – and Federally Funded Abortion. In a “nuclear option” procedure that was never intended for major social mandates, Nancy & Harry…and Leader Obama – clearly intend to disenfranchise well over half of the American People!

This is despite the fact they themselves condemned this same procedure a mere few years ago!
Thanks to Brenda Webb

Additionally the St. Louis Tea Party site has info on the evening protest downtown.

The President’s itinerary.

24thstate has info on the dollar trail.

The President will be making yet another pitch for his fauxcare reform that has been rotting in congress since summer. Despite the fact that the majority doesn’t want it, the President will shut down a public school halfway through the school day to make his pitch. Students will miss lessons so that the school can serve as a backdrop. From listener Bill:

Just received a phone call from my sons high school, they will be letting school out at 11:00 am on Wed 3-10-2010. The school has been chosen as the place that Obama will deliver his Health care speech from. So the kids will lose half a day’s education so BHO can grandstand and ram his communist health care down our th…roats, so much for education. This will take place at St. Charles High in St. Charles Mo. 63301 on 3-10-10.

Last night, one of my all time favorite state Representatives, Brian Nieves, District 98 in Missouri, had his resolution-HJR88-passed out of committee! This is the first step in not only reaffirming our state sovereignty, but our right to run this state as the voters who live here see fit. As was the original intent of the cederal Constitution, Representative Nieves lays out the basic foundation and rights of Missourians to govern our state. It reminds the federal government to not overstep their bounds and to mind their manners in all lawmaking taking place in D.C. Just because those folks don't live here any more means nothing! We still live here and we want the 10th Amendment honored as written. A few key points in this resolution:

The state of Missouri shall:
Uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America by hereby prohibiting the Missouri legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government from recognizing, enforcing, or acting in furtherance of any federal law, executive order, judicial ruling, administrative ruling, collection of revenue, dispersal of revenue, or other action by the legislative, executive, or judicial branches of the federal government that exceeds the limited powers enumerated and delegated to the federal government;
- Not recognize, enforce, or act in furtherance of the following:-Federal actions restricting the right of private citizens to bear arms;-Federal actions legalizing or funding abortions, or the destruction of anyembryo containing human DNA from the zygote stage onward through all stages of development;
-Any federal action requiring the sale or trade of carbon credits or imposing atax, fee, fine, or penalty on the release of carbon emissions;
-Federal actions involving a public option for health care, mandating end of lifecounseling, rationing health care, dictating or limiting the type of treatment a doctor may provide to his or her patient, authorizing or mandating the collection of a patient's medical record into a database, covering illegal aliens under health insurance or prohibiting enforcement of laws regarding coverage for illegal aliens, mandating the benefits health insurance must cover, requiring insurance providers to cover abortion services, restricting the ability of patients to purchase health insurance in another state, or assessing fees, fines, or penalties on employers who do not provide health insurance to their employees;

There is also language in there about "hate crimes" and homeschooling......the list just goes on and on. It is clear Rep. Nieves is standing up for what is right in this country and he is willing to go to the mat to have it written into our State Constitution. The federal government has forgotten their place. They are out of control with spending and regulation. Federal law was never intended to usurp power and control from the states. Over the years the relationship has been twisted and corrupted. State lawmakers like Brian Nieves are going to bring that power back home and no longer allow the federal government to prostitute out the citizens of this state for their own gain and will.

Thank you Representative Nieves! I am glad you are looking out for us.

Please go HERE (PDF) to read the entire text of the bill. It is imperative we show our state legislatures we support them in efforts such as this.

I forwarded a Sunshine request to Robin Carnahan's office on February 1st concerning the number of Missouri voters registered and rejected through the Department of Social Services from August 2008-August 2009. I was trying to backtrack on data that I had from this Project Vote report.

ProjectVoteTable Here is the data table that Project Vote has.
It's interesting, because Project Vote claims a success based on the number of registrations. The data is pretty wacky.
Keep in mind 2008 was a recession year - more people were seeking assistance as unemployment steadily rose in the face of a fiscal catastrophe. And second, the desire to register was at an all time high for African American voters, many of who were hit very hard by the gap in employment.
Is the Project Vote case study accurate? That's what I'm trying to determine. In addition to registrations, there is the question of double registering and rejected applications.
112,590 registrations, but how many were already registered, and how many were rejected (say if the person getting assistance was not a legal resident).
Voter registrations are required to be forwarded to the Secretary of State's office. Failure to do so was one of the big complaints of the ACORN/ProVote lawsuit.
So I forwarded a request, asking for the same numbers as those provided in the Project Vote report.

Here is the response I received from the Secretary of State's office after 21 days of exploration.

SunshineRejection

This is not acceptable. Does the Secretary of State's office not have registration information? If so, how did Project Vote get it? Are they playing word games? I have a lot of documents showing a pretty cozy relationship between SoS staffers and Project Vote data hounds in 2007, including charts, breakdowns by county, and explanations in detail. Project Vote didn't have to go through other departments to get these numbers. Why exactly am I being told there is no information? Are we to believe the Secretary of State doesn't know how many voters we had in 2008 and 2009? That's strange, seeing as she was quite confident providing charts of voters that would be unable to vote because of Voter ID. Here's her press release in 2008 claiming 240,000 voters could lose their franchise. Here's the press release in 2009, claiming 230,000 voters could lose their franchise. One - isn't it great news that up to 10,000 Missourians got around to getting their photo ID? And second if the Secretary of State is confident enought to put out a press release listing those who can't vote, surely someone in that office has the information they are legally obligated to provide to the public.

I've been stalled by the Governor's office before, but this is the first time I sense that I've been stalled by the Secretary of State's office. I've responded to the email, and anxiously await a response. This post has been published because I want to make it clear that stalling is a story in its own right. Considering the level of intimacy Carnahan's staff has with lawyers outside the state of Missouri who sued us to enforce their version of the NVRA, you would think I could get at least the same level of courtesy in getting that data.

I'm not giving up, and the full story is coming out on these pages.

Update: Looking back through my notes, I see there is actually a second Sunshine request that was rejected because there were no documents. I asked for the number of voter registration forms provided by the Secretary of State since the July 2008 order in ACORN V. Scott. The request was based on a similar request by the ACORN lawyers for documents going back to 1995. They were delivered in a short time span to make a trial date for the preliminary injunction, after in-person meetings and emails with Carnahan's staff.

It is not credible that document available in a rush for ACORN lawyers in 2008 don't exist in 2010. I've requested a second explanation and will update this blog post with the results.

In part one of my two part interview we learn why Edward Crim, a professional photographer, has decided to put down his camera and challenge incumbent Russ Carnahan (D-MO) in the August 3rd Democrat primary. This interview was conducted 1/21/10.

People with the ability to make law – especially concerning the Second Amendment – need to understand gun safety. 24thstate has a piece up demonstrating why Russ Carnahan’s recent photo op irresponsibly glorifies recklessness with a firearm. If Carnahan was trying to impress those who shoot regularly, he failed.

*Update: realizing how silly Carnahan seemed in the original story, Wagman was forced to correct himself. Seems that, if true, it’s something Carnahan’s PR people should have made clear from the onset. Nice of Wagman to take the blame.

While at a recent health care rally ‘turfed by HCAN, Sharp Elbows’ Adam Sharp confronted local reporter Charles Jaco. Jaco is known for disparaging activists on both television and radio; he likened activists at the 4/15/09 rally in St. Louis to militias and white supremacists (again, the Jim Crow-esque habit of liberals ignoring the contribution and presence of black conservatives when they don’t fit into Jaco’s white, liberal narrative). He’s referred to activists as “tea baggers.” Jaco thinks that

Sharp simply asked Jaco about this at the rally. Jaco responded by appearing to chest-bump him while Sharp’s camera is rolling (5:08). Watch Sharp’s video here. Another activist says “We’re going to get you guys next.” WTH?

The Missouri GOP has a new video out linking Robin Carnahan to ACORN - in the video, they explicitly reference Paula Hodges, which I believe comes from my research. Good on them. In case you're wondering - no, I had nothing to do with the video, and in fact didn't see it until I headed over to Missouri Political News and saw it posted.

Seriously, I'm glad to see the Republicans using my research - and in fact I wish they all would. The recent kerfuffle over Kinder's staff using an email address to send out a political statement was broadcast across the state in an instant, but no one picked up that Jeff Mazur, one of Jay Nixon's inner circle, was attacking Kinder as an author from FiredUpMissouri. Now it would look like the Republicans were trying to divert blame, even though (Jeff) Mazur's actions were clearly meant to draw attention away from the e. Coli scandal. And yes Jeff is married to Mindy Mazur. In fact, you could say Mindy used Jeff's login to help push information from America Votes out to FiredUp.

Here's the Republican video, which is quite good.

The thing to remember is that Carnahan's dismissal of ACORN connections is part and parcel of how the progressive machine works. Using a series of interlocking organizations and fake coalitions, the principals always have deniability But we're not fooled. And as the email and document evidence will show - even the connections to ACORN are apparent.

It’s absolutely mind-boggling why Washington University would choose to force incoming freshman to study a book whose main character is a Pakistani man resentful towards the United States and “smiled” and was pleased by “the fact that someone had so visibly brought America to her knees” when he watched the towers fall on 9/11. The university is one of several across the country choosing to do this.

The Freshman Reading Program steering committee has announced that the Class of 2014 will be reading and studying “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” by Mohsin Hamid.

Over the summer, incoming freshmen will receive copies of the book along with a reader’s guide and are expected to have completed the book before arriving on campus. During orientation, freshmen will participate in faculty-led discussions, and programs will be planned throughout the academic year based on the key topic or themes of the book.

Hamid’s second novel, “The Reluctant Fundamentalist,” is a novel set in the aftermath of September 11 and told from the perspective of Changez, a young Pakistani, who despite his love for America, sympathizes with the attackers.

“The steering group considered many books that had been recommended to us by students and faculty,” said Karen Coburn, senior consultant in residence and a member of the reading program’s steering committee. “Those of us who read ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ found it engaging, accessible and provocative ⎯ a book that we thought would stimulate discussion among faculty and new students.”

Coburn joined Ian MacMullen, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science in Arts & Sciences, and a group of students for a discussion of the book in January.

“In addition to themes about the immigrant experience and what it means to be an American in a post-9/11 world, students talked about themes close to their own experience as freshmen ⎯ about coming to a new environment and deciding how you present yourself to others, what assumptions you make about others, what values you choose for yourself and whom you choose to trust,” Coburn said.

The main character, Changez, is upset at the way Americans react after terrorists murder thousands of their fellow citizens so he decides to provoke indignation towards himself by making himself seem fundamentalist. Does one still reserve the right to be offended if one chooses to do that which would cause others to react a certain way? Setting them up, especially after 9/11, such a sensitive period? And to use this as some flashpoint for a discussion on immigration? Yes, let’s. Several of the 9/11 attackers were here on expired visas.

What is the point of requiring freshman to read this book? To teach students to sympathize with people who resent them based upon their own screwed up logic and desire to provoke outrage by casting their lot emotionally with terrorists?

One of those released had a warrant for their arrest.

From the Daily Journal Online:

Local authorities rounded up 14 illegal Mexican immigrants Saturday who were working in St. Francois County and then were told to turn them loose. St. Francois County Sheriff Dan Bullock said the illegal immigrants were building the new Hampton Inn in Farmington.

“Our Chief Deputy Greg Armstrong sent a couple of deputies to the construction site on Saturday,” Bullock said. “Why he sent them I’m not real sure. But when they arrived, the workers scattered and took off on foot. Four of the illegal immigrants were taken into custody at the site, the rest scattered throughout Farmington.”

Bullock said all of the immigrants were in this country illegally. The sheriff claimed the contractor building the hotel is responsible for hiring the immigrants.

“The sheriff’s department, the Farmington Police Department, the Leadington Police Department and the Park Hills Police Department rounded the illegal immigrants up later Saturday evening,” Bullock said. “None were here legally.”

Bullock said only one of the 14 is still in custody. He said the Department of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, formerly INS, said to release the other 13 immigrants.

“The one that is still in custody had a warrant for his arrest,” the sheriff said. “Immigration said to release the rest. They said they didn’t want them. There was nothing more we could hold them on, so we had to let them go.”

An out-of-state contractor from Texas builds a hotel in southern Missouri and gives jobs to people who are not here legally, one of whom has apparently committed a crime.

This makes me think of the law enforcement official who called into the show a few weeks ago to recount an experience she had near the Mexican border concerning possible terrorism. Sunday we had a TSA agent call the show to inform us about the Behavioral Detection Officer program implemented four years ago which prevents BDOs from detailing sex or race when describing possible suspects. Several of the 9/11 hijackers were here on expired visas.

We have state law enforcement enforcing the laws and the federal level telling them to ignore them.

Unbelievable. Developing this story.

(Thanks, Tom)
